Employee profile: Yuan

Synocus provides opportunities for employees to develop themselves in many ways.

Background

I joined Synocus in the summer of 2006. I moved to Finland from China in 2002 and soon started my studies in Helsinki University of Technology. Prior to joining Synocus, I had worked for other companies, some also doing business in China. However, Synocus was a company I really wanted to work for, as I felt that the daily tasks at Synocus correspond well to my Industrial Engineering and Management studies and also as Synocus has its own offices in China. Here at Synocus I feel that I can exploit my expertise to a great extent.

My role at Synocus

I have been working mainly on Synocus’ China operations, and have also participated in customer projects related to business strategy. In February 2008, I finished my master's thesis concerning the potential of ubiquitous computing technology in the elderly care sector, and how Synocus could benefit from it. I believe that Synocus can use my research results in this area also when developing business in China, as aging is a critical challenge for the Chinese society as well.

Synocus as a workplace

What I like the most about working for Synocus is the company’s support for individual growth. Synocus provides opportunities for the employees to develop themselves in many ways. Synocus employees can flexibly pursue further study while working. The employees are also encouraged by the company to carry out physical exercises and engage in other hobbies. Finally, what differentiates Synocus from many other consulting companies is that here consultants “have a life” meaning a healthy work-life balance. My expectations for the coming 2-3 years are to develop our China business both in Finland and in China and to become the responsible person and an expert in this field.
